How To Train Your Baby How To Sleep
Putting a baby to sleep was made possible by Pavlov’s dogs. Ivan Pavlov and his dog’s experiment are a pair who if you have heard of them then you know what the benefits of conditioning are. The dog’s were taught that when the bell rang it was a cue to eat. The dogs overtime got used to timetable and associated a bell ring with food. Easy, right? The feeding cue for the dogs was the bell which they would react to accordingly once it rang. But, in this article the talk is not about dog rather babies.
The concept could be the same though here we know that the baby is not a dog but perhaps you should condition him similarly. You should start by following your baby’s patterns and identify the sleeping cues.
These will be essential in helping your baby to sleep because you will look out for the time she sleeps and what she does and know that the is preparing to sleep.
The concept is great right? It is not easy to implement as it is easy to write. There are some components which should be captured for it to work.
One, you need a constant organized timetable for the baby on a daily basis. The reason behind this is that a schedule leads to consistency which to predictability. If the schedule is followed constantly on a daily basis you will know what to expect and also what follows after that and be able to know the sleep cue.
Sometime you want to help the baby to settle so she can sleep on her own.
During the times when you decide that you want to put the baby to sleep make sure you do it consistently and gently.
When the baby is being swayed it is assisted to sleep by some rhythms. The swaying if needed should be gentle for the baby’s relaxation because if it is done fast the baby will think it’s a cue to play.
In case you do not have a schedule it is about time to draft one. Bathing time is one such cue. Children pick schedules faster so if you start it by bathing followed by activities geared towards bedtime by the time you tell the child to go to sleep it will be easy.
Since conception when the baby is in the womb they grow accustomed to the womb. No baby can come to the world with a lot of stimuli as it is feared there will be an issue of insecurity. If you want to assist the baby to sleep soundly, you need to make the shift from the womb to the world comfortable.
