Exercise and Stress Relief.
Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. One is said not to be a good state of mind when they are stressed. Stress is caused by very many factors. People react to the causes of stress differently. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Causes of stress in the workplace include being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, working under dangerous conditions among other causes. The other category of stress is the life stress. The causes of life stress are divorce, getting married, loss of a job, the death of a loved one among others.
Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. Meaning that one can stress themselves out by worrying about certain things. Examples of such are fear and certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes. Stress is a form of mental instability. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. Stress has negative health implications. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. Some of the health implications of stress can be life-threatening. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.
Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. It is important that a stressed person should avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Nicotine and caffeine are known to be stimulants. These substances will increase the levels of stress rather than reducing. Aalcohol, on the other hand, is a depressant in large quantities but not an effective way of dealing with stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. There are also some relaxation techniques that one might try to help them reduce stress. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. Iit is not, however, necessary that the exercise be vigorous. One can even walk in fresh air. Working out on a daily basis is even a much better remedy.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of the direct stress-busting effects of exercise is that it pumps up your endorphins. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. Exercise is also effective in improving the mood of a person. This is done by increasing one’s self-confidence, it can help someone to relax and can also lower the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety.
